This role represents a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge autonomous systems that directly contribute to protecting service members and civilians worldwide.

The position involves developing sophisticated multi-target tracking systems for the Hivemind Pilot product line, requiring expertise in both theoretical concepts and practical implementation. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of object tracking theory, including optimal state estimation, sensor integration, and statistical inference, combined with advanced C++ programming skills.

Working from either San Diego or Washington DC, you'll be part of a company with a global presence, including offices in Dallas, Abu Dhabi, Kyiv, and Melbourne. Shield AI's technology is actively supporting U.S. and allied operations worldwide through products like Hivemind Enterprise—EdgeOS, Pilot, Commander, and Forge.

  • Research and develop world-class object tracking and data association algorithms and techniques
  • Write production-quality tracking software in C++ for military platforms
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive unit, integration, and system tests
  • Enhance sensor models within simulation environment
  • Collaborate on product roadmap development and feature decomposition
  • Work in fast-paced continuous development environment

Requirements For Staff Perception Engineer, Target Tracking (SD or DC)

  • 7+ years experience with Bachelor's degree; or 6 years with Master's; or 4 years with PhD
  • Extreme proficiency in modern C++ and object-oriented design patterns
  • Professional experience deploying C++ software for DoD acquisition programs
  • Professional experience designing state estimation algorithms (KF, EKF, UKF)
  • Track record developing innovative solutions to multi-target tracking problems
  • Experience with CI pipelines and automated testing frameworks in C++
  • Experience with MATLAB for prototyping (preferred)
  • Experience with airborne EO/IR tracking systems (preferred)
  • Experience with multi-hypothesis tracking algorithms (preferred)
