Simbe Robotics is seeking an experienced Optical Systems Engineer to lead their camera system development initiatives. This role combines hardware expertise with software integration, focusing on advancing retail robotics through sophisticated imaging systems.

The position offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of robotics, AI, and retail innovation. You'll be responsible for maintaining and evolving the current production camera architecture while also developing next-generation camera hardware for various data capture platforms. This role requires deep technical expertise in optical systems, camera development, and low-level programming.

Working in a collaborative environment, you'll interface with Product, Software Engineering, and Hardware design teams to create cutting-edge camera systems. The role involves both hardware and software aspects, from optimizing optical components to programming MIPI camera drivers for Nvidia Jetson platforms.

Key technical areas include camera system design, MIPI/CSI drivers, 3D imaging, depth sensing, and image processing. You'll need proficiency in C/C++, understanding of color science, and experience with various imaging technologies. Responsibilities For Optical Systems Engineer - Robotics

  • Optimize optical and imaging systems to improve functionality and performance
  • Design, build, and test prototypes to validate optical designs
  • Develop and optimize camera components including lenses, sensors, and image processing algorithms
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate camera systems into robotic platforms

Requirements For Optical Systems Engineer - Robotics

  • Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Proficiency in C or C++ with experience in low level programming
  • Experience in camera system design and development
  • Deep understanding of CSI/MIPI camera drivers and systems
  • Experience with cameras and capture architectures leveraging Nvidia platforms
  • Experience developing camera systems leveraging GMSL/FPDLINK interfaces
  • Strong knowledge of imaging principles and optical components
  • Strong understanding of color science and image quality metrics
  • Experience with 3D imaging and depth-sensing technologies
