Senior or Staff Software Engineer (Core Systems)

SmartNews, a pioneering force in global information and news discovery, is seeking a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to join their Core Systems Team. Founded in 2012 in Tokyo, with offices across major tech hubs including San Francisco, Palo Alto, New York, and Singapore, SmartNews leverages cutting-edge machine learning technology to serve millions of users through partnerships with over 3,000 global publishers.

The Core Systems Team plays a crucial role in maintaining the backbone of SmartNews' engineering operations, managing the core Kubernetes orchestration platform that supports both stateless applications and stateful data platforms. They're responsible for providing a self-service CI/CD platform and comprehensive observability solutions that enable efficient development and operations.

As a Senior or Staff Software Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of building and maintaining mission-critical infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include driving the reliability and scalability of the Kubernetes platform, implementing SRE practices, designing observability solutions, and evolving the CI/CD platform. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies like Kubernetes, CNCF tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Thanos, Jaeger), and Golang.

The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in container orchestration, particularly Kubernetes, extensive experience with observability systems, and proven skills in CI/CD platforms. Knowledge of AWS services, Infrastructure-as-Code tools, and distributed systems is highly valued.
