Description For Avionics Hardware Engineer (Dragon)

SpaceX is seeking an Avionics Hardware Engineer for their Dragon spacecraft program. This role offers a unique opportunity to explore all areas of a product's life cycle from development through production and launch. The engineer will focus on electronic design, reliability, and manufacturing, analyzing and troubleshooting electronic assemblies, defining new processes, designing circuits/fixtures/tools, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing extreme ownership of avionics hardware for flight across all areas of the product life cycle
  • Driving changes to electrical schematics and mechanical drawings to improve reliability and manufacturability
  • Performing root cause investigations to characterize off-nominal unit behavior and mitigate risk
  • Developing high reliability hardware to expand vehicle capabilities
  • Deriving engineering justification to resolve production issues throughout assembly, test, and vehicle integration
  • Designing test setups and executing hardware validation through benchtop and environmental testing

The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering, with at least 1 year of experience in electronics hardware design and using electrical test equipment. Preferred skills include familiarity with analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits, electrical schematic capture and PCB design software, mechanical design software, circuit simulation software, and various digital communication interfaces.

This role at SpaceX offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology that will enable human exploration of space, with the ultimate goal of establishing human life on Mars. The position comes with competitive compensation, including potential stock options, comprehensive benefits, and the chance to be part of a team pushing the boundaries of space technology.
