SpaceX, a pioneering space exploration company, is seeking a Build Engineer for their Thermal Hardware team working on the Starship project. As a Build Engineer, you'll take ownership of tooling design and development, managing everything from bonding and welding to structural integration and testing. The role demands technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and strong leadership skills as you'll often serve as a technical advisor to production technicians and other skilled professionals.

The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor's degree in engineering and at least one year of relevant experience. You'll work with advanced manufacturing techniques, including robotics, CNC operations, and 3D printing, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation.

Responsibilities For Build Engineer, Thermal Hardware (Starship)

  • Work closely with vehicle analysts and design team to ensure solutions meet requirements
  • Develop production procedures/processes and manage transition from development to high rate production
  • Coordinate and execute development, qualification, and acceptance testing
  • Execute design for manufacturability changes
  • Create original CAD models and prints for flight and tooling components
  • Lead on-site design engineering contact for parts and assemblies build
  • Create and maintain build schedules
  • Resolve and analyze manufacturing discrepancies
  • Participate in design reviews internally and with suppliers
  • Partner with engineering & production teams for improvements
  • Source, retain and advise vendors from technical perspective

Requirements For Build Engineer, Thermal Hardware (Starship)

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or other engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of manufacturing or design experience
  • Must be U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (ITAR requirements)
  • Ability to work at elevated heights (10' to 185'+)
  • Ability to work in extreme outdoor environments
  • Physical capabilities for standing, kneeling, crouching, and working in cramped positions
