Description For Electrical Engineer (Instrumentation and Controls)

SpaceX, a pioneering space technology company, is seeking an Electrical Engineer specializing in Instrumentation and Controls to join their mission of enabling human life on Mars. This role combines electrical and mechanical systems expertise to design and maintain critical test stands, support facilities, and control systems.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to work directly with SpaceX's cutting-edge technology, developing and integrating physical hardware including wire harnesses, PCBs, custom enclosures, PLCs, data acquisition systems, avionics systems, engine controllers, and various sensors. You'll be responsible for ensuring real-time data transfer from physical sensors and actuators to stand operators, engineers, and customers.

As an Electrical Engineer at SpaceX, you'll work with test articles including in-space systems, vehicles, avionics systems, and ground systems. The role demands excellent operational support and accurate data interpretation skills, as these automation and control systems are crucial for enabling safe, economical, and reliable access to space.

The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $100,000 to $135,000 annually, depending on experience level, along with comprehensive benefits including equity, medical coverage, and 401(k). Responsibilities For Electrical Engineer (Instrumentation and Controls)

  • Maintain operational capability of control voltage level (<60V) electrical systems
  • Develop and upgrade data acquisition and control systems
  • Create new automation systems for avionics and engine testing
  • Provide technical support for controls technicians and other groups
  • Develop new hardware and processes to improve capabilities
  • Analyze data to assess function and health of electrical systems
  • Assist in design and analysis of experiments for test articles

Requirements For Electrical Engineer (Instrumentation and Controls)

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, electrical engineering or computer engineering
  • 1+ years of experience with data acquisition systems
  • Ability to work at elevated heights (200+ feet)
  • Must be U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (ITAR requirements)
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
