Description For Facilities Operations Engineer (Critical Infrastructure)

As a member of the critical infrastructure team at SpaceX, you will help design, build, activate and maintain some of the world's most technically advanced manufacturing facilities. You will operate with autonomy to solve diverse and complex problems, excel at managing multiple projects at a time, and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. As a facilities engineer, you will be the extreme owner of provided tactical and strategic scheduling and interfacing all work across the organization. You will work directly with other managers, supervisors, leads, technicians and external vendors to support these goals and have the opportunity to drive real global impact, ultimately leading to making life multiplanetary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide tactical scheduling and strategic long-range planning expertise to the critical infrastructure and operations team
  • Schedule and plan all facilities repair and maintenance work across the organization
  • Assist the Facilities Manager(s) in all aspects of project implementation
  • Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors
  • Provide campus-wide reporting on departmental spend, ticketing, and other metrics
  • Perform job walk-downs with vendors, engineers, supervisors, and managers
  • Work with the purchasing department to ensure vendors are approved, vetted and insured
  • Assist with badging, ITAR and NDA requirements, and safety training
  • Interact with engineers, contractors, fabricators, and project stakeholders
  • Ensure purchase orders are accurate with no cost overruns

This role requires a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other engineering discipline, and at least 2 years of experience with the design or build of MEP building systems. Preferred skills include facility vendor and contract management, SQL experience, knowledge of HVAC operation and design principles, experience with plumbing design and operation, and experience with critical power infrastructure.

Requirements For Facilities Operations Engineer (Critical Infrastructure)

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of experience with the design or build of MEP building systems
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Ability to remain focused while working in hazardous environments, while wearing appropriate PPE
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
  • Must be able to travel to other SpaceX sites as needed (up to 25%)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
