Description For FPGA Engineer (Starshield)

SpaceX is seeking an FPGA Engineer to join their Starshield program, which leverages SpaceX's launch capability and Starlink technology for national security efforts. As part of the satellite digital design team, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and testing FPGAs that support safety-critical logic, sensors, optical, and communications systems for SpaceX's satellite constellation.

The role involves working with cutting-edge space technology and contributing to missions that support scientific research, classified national security space, and commercial opportunities. You'll be part of a team building highly reliable in-space networks, designing secure systems, and creating autonomous satellite operation systems.

The ideal candidate will have experience with FPGA development, including RTL design, verification, synthesis, and timing analysis. Knowledge of high-speed serial links, networking protocols, and embedded systems development is highly valued. The position requires strong technical skills combined with excellent leadership and communication abilities.

Responsibilities For FPGA Engineer (Starshield)

  • Deliver highly reliable firmware for SpaceX-designed hardware
  • Work with engineers across the department to develop new products, from prototype through production and flight
  • Take ownership of firmware products, including verification testing and writing documentation
  • Follow the SpaceX flight software development process and write great firmware for spaceflight
  • Work in close collaboration with avionics, software, and platform engineers to design and validate FPGA designs

Requirements For FPGA Engineer (Starshield)

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, math or other engineering discipline; OR 2+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience using Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee due to ITAR requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret or Top Secret SCI clearance
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
