Description For GNC Engineer, Starlink Controls

SpaceX is seeking a GNC Engineer for the Starlink Controls team to work on the world's largest satellite constellation. The role involves designing and implementing satellite attitude control systems, electromechanical control systems, and developing high-fidelity simulations. You'll be part of a team writing autopilot algorithms for thousands of satellites and over a million user terminals, enabling high-speed broadband internet access globally.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and analyzing satellite attitude control and momentum management systems
  • Implementing electromechanical control systems for solar arrays, antenna gimbals, and active optics
  • Developing simulations using C++, Python, and MATLAB
  • Implementing and validating production software in C++
  • Supporting hardware development and network performance monitoring

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, physics, or engineering
  • Software development experience in C++
  • Experience with closed-loop control systems design and analysis

Preferred skills:

  • Master's or PhD in physics or engineering
  • Understanding of rigid body dynamics, orbital mechanics, and software development
  • Experience with spacecraft operations and flight software
  • Expertise in state space and frequency domain controls analysis
  • Knowledge of flexible body dynamics and jitter rejection
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
