Description For Hardware Development Engineer (Starship)

SpaceX is seeking a Hardware Development Engineer for the Starship program. This role is part of a fast-moving and world-class hardware development team that builds some of the most advanced electronics ever flown in space. The team's mission is to revolutionize orbital flight and space travel, opening access for humankind to establish new frontiers in space and ultimately become a multi-planetary species.

Responsibilities include:

  • Rapidly designing, developing, and testing highly reliable electronics for communicating with satellites
  • Driving electrical architecture, specification, component selection, circuit board design, implementation, verification, board bring up and debugging
  • Partnering with software, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing teams and production test teams

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering and experience rapidly designing electronics products. Preferred qualifications include 2+ years of professional experience in rapidly designing and delivering highly reliable products, full life cycle development of new hardware products, designing and implementing mixed-signal circuit boards, testing and debugging electronics, and working on fast-paced projects.

SpaceX offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $100,000 - $135,000 per year (depending on level), potential long-term incentives, comprehensive benefits, and various perks. Requirements For Hardware Development Engineer (Starship)

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering
  • Experience rapidly designing electronics products
  • 2+ years of professional experience rapidly designing and delivering highly reliable products
  • 2+ years of electronic product experience designing hardware from concept through production
  • 2+ years of experience designing and implementing mixed-signal circuit boards
  • 2+ years of professional experience testing, troubleshooting and debugging electronics
  • 2+ years of professional experience with fast-paced projects
  • Strong understanding of computers and programming languages (Python, C/C++)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
