Description For IT Network Engineer

SpaceX, a company dedicated to making humanity a multi-planetary species, is seeking an IT Network Engineer to join their dynamic team. This role is crucial in maintaining the network infrastructure that supports SpaceX's ambitious goals of designing, manufacturing, and launching rockets, spacecraft, and satellites, as well as enabling human space flight.

As an IT Network Engineer at SpaceX, you'll be responsible for the procurement, configuration, and installation of network hardware, troubleshooting network issues, and planning network maintenance. You'll work on cutting-edge technologies, performing wireless surveys, configuring network access control, and monitoring network health using various tools.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in network engineering, with a strong understanding of the OSI model and network standards. Hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst and Arista data center class switches, wireless technologies, and various network protocols is preferred. Industry standard certifications such as CCNA or CCNP are a plus.

Responsibilities For IT Network Engineer

  • Procure, configure and install network hardware including switches, access points, UPS and PDUs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network related issues
  • Plan and coordinate network outage windows with stakeholders
  • Perform wireless surveys to determine coverage gaps and implement solutions
  • Configure and troubleshoot network access control (NAC) and other security features
  • Perform job walks with customers, vendors and contractors to gather network requirements
  • Build and maintain IDF rooms across the campus
  • Monitor network health using in-house and 3rd party tools
  • Create and update network documentation
  • Manage network hardware inventory

Requirements For IT Network Engineer

Linux
  • 3+ years of experience in network engineering
  • Understanding of the OSI model and network standards
  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst and Arista data center class switches
  • Experience with Cisco wireless LAN controllers or other wireless technologies
  • Knowledge of Wave Division Multiplexing and fiber optics
  • Familiarity with DNS, DHCP, SNMP, IP helpers, ARP, CDP, LLDP
  • Experience with switch port security features
  • Proficiency with network monitoring tools
  • Documentation and procedural installation skills
  • Linux/Windows system administration
  • Industry standard certifications such as CCNA or CCNP (preferred)
  • Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
  • Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 35 lbs. unassisted
