Description For Launch Engineer, Dragon (Interior & Crew Operations)

SpaceX, a pioneering aerospace company, is seeking a Launch Engineer for their Dragon Maintenance team. This role focuses on capsule interior, parachute systems, and crew operations. As part of this dynamic team, you'll leverage your expertise to develop innovative solutions in human spaceflight manufacturing and reusability. Your responsibilities will include maintaining and testing flight hardware for Crew and Cargo Dragon capsules, supporting launch pad operations for astronauts, and cargo loading.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning engineering deliverables for capsule interior hardware, parachute systems, and crew operations
  • Identifying and executing process improvements across the capsule fleet
  • Developing and refining integrated planning documents, inspection procedures, and test requirements
  • Resolving technical issues on the shop floor and collaborating with design engineers
  • Supporting launch day operations for astronauts and cargo loading
  • Designing tools to improve capsule interior hardware processing

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of space exploration, contributing directly to SpaceX's mission of enabling human life on Mars. You'll be part of a team establishing aircraft-like operations for Dragon capsules and interfacing with engineering and production teams across the program.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline and at least 1 year of experience in hardware development, vehicle integration, or related fields. Preferred qualifications include a master's degree, 2+ years of industry experience, and familiarity with spacecraft or launch vehicles.

SpaceX offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $95,000 - $130,000 per year (depending on level), potential stock options, bonuses, and comprehensive benefits. Responsibilities For Launch Engineer, Dragon (Interior & Crew Operations)

  • Own engineering deliverables for capsule interior hardware, parachute system, and crew operations

  • Enable day-to-day execution on the shop floor through technical issue resolution
  • Support launch operations for astronauts and cargo loading
  • Design and develop tools to improve capsule interior hardware processing

  • Work with customers to fulfill contractual requirements
  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on project goals
  • Seek solutions to technical problems

Requirements For Launch Engineer, Dragon (Interior & Crew Operations)

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, physics, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering or other engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of experience with hardware development, vehicle integration or refurbishment, manufacturing, pressurized systems, or operations
  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Comfortable being trained to work around hypergolic propellants and willing to work with hazardous materials
  • Comfortable working at heights ~220 feet
  • Mental fitness to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment
  • Willingness to work outdoors
  • Flexibility for 50 hour work weeks
