Description For Launch Engineer, Structures (Dragon)

SpaceX is pioneering the future of space exploration with their Dragon spacecraft program. As a Launch Engineer on the Spacecraft Integration - Dragon team, you'll lead development of innovative solutions for human spaceflight operations and reusability. This role involves managing pre-launch and post-recovery operations for the Dragon spacecraft, designed for crew and cargo missions to low earth orbit.

You'll have comprehensive ownership of your work and team across all phases, from procedure development to system-level checkouts and hazardous operations. The position requires expertise in thermal protection systems, capsule transport, and integration processes. You'll work directly with both Dragon and Falcon systems, conducting critical tests and maintaining detailed documentation.

Responsibilities For Launch Engineer, Structures (Dragon)

  • Develop and execute procedures for Dragon flight hardware integration, test and operation
  • Execute procedures for Dragon ground support equipment checkout and integration
  • Manage launch site and vehicle processing activities including thermal protection system
  • Run vehicle system level checkouts and hazardous operations as test conductor
  • Develop inspection, repair, assembly, and system test procedures
  • Manage work orders and non-conformances
  • Maintain integrated planning documents for capsule configurations
  • Design and develop tools for vehicle processing and testing
  • Collaborate with engineering staff and technicians
  • Work with government/commercial customers on human spaceflight preparations
  • Communicate vehicle status in readiness reviews and updates

Requirements For Launch Engineer, Structures (Dragon)

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, physics, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering or related field
  • 1+ years of experience with hardware development or operations
  • Ability to pass Space Force background check
  • Physical capability to lift 15-35 lbs
  • Willing to work with hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in high-stress environment
  • Must meet ITAR requirements
  • Willing to work 50+ hour weeks
  • Willing to work outdoors
