Description For Launch Reliability Engineer (Operations and Automation)

SpaceX is seeking a Launch Reliability Engineer to join their inclusive, inter-disciplinary team committed to the reliability of flight & ground components and efficient operational processes. As a Reliability Engineer, you'll have extensive exposure collaborating with core groups at SpaceX, guiding hardware from design to production, operation, and maintenance. You'll use data to understand reliability factors, support quality objectives, and drive improvements in manufacturing, test, and flight reliability. The role requires both detailed problem-solving and system-level prioritization for the entire vehicle. You'll work in a hands-on environment, spending time in the office, factory floor, and lab to contribute to SpaceX's mission of making humanity interplanetary. Partnering with Flight Reliability, Launch Engineering, and Launch Operations teams, you'll ensure mission success as SpaceX progresses towards crewed spaceflight and Mars colonization. You'll have the opportunity to work on diverse projects including Falcon 9, Dragon, and Starship programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting astronaut and payload launches through vehicle, payload, and spacecraft processing
  • Developing and validating lean test processes for automation products
  • Implementing continuous improvements for lean, autonomous vehicle operations
  • Identifying and mitigating high-risk operations
  • Investigating failures and identifying root causes
  • Establishing operator training standards
  • Maintaining feedback loops to drive hardware improvements
  • Participating in design reviews to ensure quality and manufacturability

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in engineering or science and 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or engineering. Preferred skills include on-console operator experience, knowledge of quality tools and lean principles, and experience with automation development, fluid system operations, or control systems testing.

This role offers competitive compensation, with a pay range of $125,000 - $175,000 per year for a Senior/Launch Reliability Engineer. Benefits include potential stock options, bonuses, comprehensive health coverage, 401(k), paid leave, and various perks. The position requires the ability to pass an Air Force background check and availability for extended hours when needed.

SpaceX is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity and inclusion. The role is subject to ITAR requirements, limiting eligibility to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.
