SpaceX, a pioneering space technology company, is revolutionizing space exploration with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. We are seeking a Manufacturing Safety Engineer for our Starship program, a crucial role in developing Earth's first fully reusable super heavy launch vehicles.

As a Manufacturing Safety Engineer, you will join our Environmental Health & Safety team, working on cutting-edge technologies and manufacturing processes. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to humanity's space exploration efforts while ensuring the safety and efficiency of our manufacturing operations.

The position requires a strong engineering background with at least one year of experience in manufacturing, quality, or design engineering. You'll be responsible for establishing safety procedures, performing risk assessments, and serving as the Laser Safety Officer. The role demands expertise in process safety management, pressure systems, and functional safety systems.

Responsibilities For Manufacturing Safety Engineer, Starship

  • Establish safety tools and procedures for production process planning and optimization
  • Perform risk assessments on complex industrial machinery
  • Design functional safety systems (SIS, SIL) and review safety code
  • Serve as department's Laser Safety Officer (LSO)
  • Conduct PFMEAs to uphold safe manufacturing processes
  • Analyze tooling and ground support equipment (GSE) for safety and load factors
  • Provide safety design guidance on high pressure systems

Requirements For Manufacturing Safety Engineer, Starship

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, manufacturing engineering, electrical engineering, or another STEM field
  • 1+ years in manufacturing, quality and/or design engineering role
  • Must be U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee due to ITAR requirements
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
  • Must relocate to Brownsville, TX area
