Description For Mechanical Design Engineer (Propulsion Components)

SpaceX is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for their Falcon Components Engineering team. This role involves designing, testing, and troubleshooting state-of-the-art electromechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic valves and actuators for the Falcon rocket's propulsion and control systems. You'll work on cutting-edge rocket reusability, optimize valve designs for extreme environments, and solve fleet-wide issues. The position requires a deep understanding of rocket components, collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, and the ability to support SpaceX's high-frequency launch schedule.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting and development of valves, regulators, and actuators for Falcon 9 and Dragon vehicles
  • Collaborating on valve and vehicle investigations
  • Generating detailed drawings and coordinating valve manufacturing
  • Developing and executing qualification test plans
  • Leading root cause investigations and redesigns
  • Certifying hardware for crewed flight and repeated reuse

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering or physics, with 1+ years of experience in designing and analyzing mechanical systems. Preferred qualifications include a master's degree, hands-on experience with fluid systems, and strong project management skills.
