Description For Mechanical Engineer, Aviation Hardware (Starlink)

As a Mechanical Engineer on the Starlink Aviation Hardware Team, you'll play a crucial role in revolutionizing airborne connectivity. You'll own flight hardware from concept to operation, working closely with senior leadership during critical design phases. This role demands strong technical and design skills, analytical capabilities, and the drive to bring projects to completion. You'll be responsible for blank-slate design, qualification, test design, production, and in-flight success of hardware. Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning hardware from conceptual design through production and operation for aircraft installations
  • Developing design criteria and driving system-level optimization
  • Performing analysis using hand calculations, FEA, and CAD in a dynamic environment
  • Leading design reviews and working with FAA designees for component and system certification
  • Generating detailed production drawings and performing tolerance stackup analysis
  • Driving holistic Design for Manufacturability (DFM) with a focus on efficiency and quality
  • Establishing an efficient product lifecycle and working on in-house production line design
  • Conducting environmental and performance testing to validate designs

Responsibilities For Mechanical Engineer, Aviation Hardware (Starlink)

  • Own hardware from conceptual design through production and operation for aircraft installations
  • Develop design criteria and drive system-level optimization
  • Perform analysis on designs including hand calculations, FEA, and CAD
  • Lead design reviews and work with FAA designees to certify components and systems
  • Generate detailed production drawings using GD&T and perform tolerance stackup analysis
  • Drive holistic DFM to create elegant designs
  • Establish an efficient product lifecycle
  • Perform environmental and performance testing on hardware
  • Own product delivery timeline through conception, design, assembly, and launch

Requirements For Mechanical Engineer, Aviation Hardware (Starlink)

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience with CAD and FEA software packages
  • 1+ years of professional experience with mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing
  • U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or eligibility to obtain required authorizations due to ITAR requirements
