Description For Mechanical Engineer (Infrastructure)

SpaceX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Infrastructure) to join their construction and infrastructure team in Hawthorne, CA. As a member of this team, you will design, build, and activate some of the world's most technically advanced manufacturing facilities. You will be the subject matter expert on all compressed air, piping, dust collection, and other critical fluid systems at HQ. This role involves design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of fluids system elements, working with other construction engineers, architects, and internal customers to support SpaceX's goals of making life multiplanetary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing engineering support for design, operation, improvement, and troubleshooting of facility mechanical components and systems
  • Applying thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics principles
  • Sizing mechanical systems equipment independently
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams
  • Managing construction contracts with subcontractors
  • Overseeing equipment installation, operation, and maintenance
  • Troubleshooting mechanical system problems and creating maintenance protocols

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ year of professional experience designing industrial compressed air, HVAC, and/or plumbing systems

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of professional experience
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD/Revit software
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards
  • Experience with advanced data/monitoring systems
  • Strong understanding of construction project management principles

Responsibilities For Mechanical Engineer (Infrastructure)

Requirements For Mechanical Engineer (Infrastructure)

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ year of professional experience designing industrial compressed air, HVAC, and/or plumbing systems
  • Understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics principles
  • Ability to size mechanical systems equipment independently
  • Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State (ITAR requirements)
