SpaceX, a pioneering space technology company, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Reliability for their Dragon program. This role is part of the Build Reliability organization, an inclusive, inter-disciplinary team committed to ensuring the reliability of flight components and production assemblies. The position focuses on supporting structures and thermal protection systems, offering extensive exposure through collaboration with various core groups at SpaceX.

As a Build Reliability Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in guiding hardware from design to production and operation. The position requires a data-driven approach to understand reliability factors and support quality objectives. You'll work closely with design and development teams to enhance manufacturing, testing, and flight reliability. Responsibilities For Mechanical Engineer - Reliability (Dragon)

  • Partner with design engineering and manufacturing teams through product development and production to create quality plans for flight hardware
  • Investigate failures in production, test and flight, identifying and mitigating root causes
  • Develop, implement and validate Lean test and inspection processes
  • Monitor products and processes success through production ramp-up
  • Conduct regular build quality reviews
  • Contain suspect or non-conforming product and provide guidance for quarantine and rework
  • Support shop floor continuous improvement and advancing Lean production system

Requirements For Mechanical Engineer - Reliability (Dragon)

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, manufacturing engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or another STEM related field
  • 1+ years in manufacturing, quality and/or design engineering role
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Knowledge of quality tools and Lean principles
  • Must be U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (ITAR requirements)
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite as needed
