Description For Propulsion Build Engineer (Starship)

SpaceX is seeking a Propulsion Build Engineer for their Starship program at Starbase, TX. This role is responsible for developing build processes, tooling, and designs for manufacturability to enable high-rate manufacturing of vehicle fluid systems. The position involves heavy engagement with both design and build teams across the program, requiring close interaction with Starship and Super Heavy hardware.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing manufacturing processes, techniques, and tools for efficient and high-rate manufacturing
  • Working with design engineering to simplify vehicle fluids systems
  • Guiding technicians, welders, and fabricators in building high-quality fluid systems hardware
  • Coordinating and executing development, qualification, and acceptance testing
  • Creating CAD models and prints for flight and tooling components
  • Maintaining build schedules and participating in design reviews

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's or advanced degree in aerospace, manufacturing, materials, mechanical engineering, or a related field, with hands-on project experience in fluid and/or mechanical systems. At least 1 year of manufacturing design experience is required, with internship and academic experience being applicable.

Preferred skills include experience with GD&T concepts, fluid mechanics, pressurized components, mechanical design, process development, CAD systems (especially Unigraphics NX and Teamcenter), and welding processes.

This role requires physical dexterity, the ability to work in tight quarters and extreme outdoor environments, and flexibility to travel to remote build sites up to 10% of the time.
