Description For Propulsion Development Engineer (Raptor Flight)

SpaceX, a pioneering space technology company founded with the vision of making humanity a multi-planetary species, is seeking a Propulsion Development Engineer to join their Raptor engine team. This role represents a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of space exploration technology, directly contributing to SpaceX's ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

The position offers an exciting blend of hands-on engineering work and strategic problem-solving, where you'll be responsible for taking hardware from initial concept through to flight operations. You'll work alongside some of the industry's most brilliant and passionate engineers, developing methods to achieve airline-like operations for the world's highest-performing rocket engines.

As a Propulsion Development Engineer, you'll be deeply involved in the design, analysis, and development of Raptor engine propulsion systems. Your responsibilities will span from supporting live test and flight operations as a primary console operator to implementing rigorous hardware and software verification processes. The role requires a strong foundation in engineering fundamentals, particularly in areas such as compressible/incompressible flow, thermodynamics, and materials.

The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $95,000 to $130,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Beyond the base salary, SpaceX provides a comprehensive benefits package including equity opportunities, medical coverage, 401(k), and various other perks. The role involves some travel between California and Texas facilities (up to 10%) and requires flexibility with working hours to support critical operations.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with at least one year of experience in pressurized fluid systems and hardware development, who thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. You'll need to demonstrate extreme ownership of your work, maintain a sense of urgency, and be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities. If you're passionate about space exploration and want to be part of a team that's literally reaching for the stars, this role at SpaceX could be your next career milestone.
