Description For RF/Microwave Engineer II (Starlink)

SpaceX, a pioneering space exploration company, is seeking an RF/Microwave Engineer II to join their Starlink team. This role is crucial in developing the world's most advanced broadband internet system, which currently serves over 4 million users globally through the largest satellite constellation ever created.

The position sits within the Satellite Payload Engineering team, where you'll be instrumental in developing RF devices that power satellites and ground antennas. This includes everything from power amplifiers to waveguide components, reflectors, and antennae. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team focused on pushing the boundaries of wireless digital communication systems.

As an RF/Microwave Engineer II, you'll be responsible for the complete lifecycle of electrical hardware for satellites and ground communication systems. This includes simulation, design, implementation, and verification. The role requires a strong background in RF/microwave circuit design and experience with 3D EM simulation tools.

The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field, with 3+ years of relevant experience. Advanced knowledge in RF passive components, radio performance characterization, and digital communication systems is highly valued. Experience with tools like ADS, HFSS, AWR, and programming languages such as Python and MATLAB is essential.

Responsibilities For RF/Microwave Engineer II (Starlink)

  • Simulate and model communication systems
  • Work with system architects, RF engineers, antenna engineers, modem/DSP, and ASIC engineers
  • Assess feasibility of various designs in support of architectural definition
  • Derive top-level specifications for RF links and RF and antenna subsystems
  • Characterize and analyze system performance
  • Provide technical support to regulatory, coordination, and market access teams

Requirements For RF/Microwave Engineer II (Starlink)

  • 3+ years of research and/or industry experience in RF/microwave circuit design
  • 1+ years of experience using 3D EM simulation tools

  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed
