SpaceX, a pioneering space technology company, is seeking a Senior IC Layout Engineer to join their Silicon Engineering team. This role is crucial in developing the technology behind Starlink, the world's most advanced broadband internet system currently serving over 5 million users globally.
The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge silicon projects that are pushing the boundaries of integration, power efficiency, and mixed signal architectures for both space and ground infrastructure applications. As a senior IC layout engineer, you'll be at the forefront of technical innovation, working alongside world-class cross-disciplinary teams including systems architecture, ASIC design, firmware, and various validation teams.
Your responsibilities will encompass the full spectrum of IC layout work, from initial floor planning to final tape out. You'll work closely with RFIC/mixed signal designers on full chip layout of custom analog and RFIC designs, requiring expertise in advanced node IC layouts and high-frequency circuits up to 50GHz. The role demands strong technical skills in analog layout, design rule checking, and top-level integration.
The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of professional experience as an IC layout designer, along with a bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering. Your technical expertise should be complemented by excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently on challenging problems. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $130,000 to $180,000 per year, along with comprehensive benefits including equity options, medical coverage, and 401(k).

Responsibilities For SR. IC LAYOUT ENGINEER (SILICON ENGINEERING)
- Work with IC designers and chip leads to determine chip floor plan, including power/ground distribution and pad locations
- Estimate layout work schedule and identify complex areas needing investigation
- Perform custom RF and analog circuit blocks layout with focus on matching and parasitic capacitance
- Conduct design rule checking, electrical rule checking, and layout versus schematic checks
- Perform top-level layout integration with ESD structures and pad assembly
- Work with EDA suppliers on new tools and features
- Create guides and demos for team layout technique improvements
Requirements For SR. IC LAYOUT ENGINEER (SILICON ENGINEERING)
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering
- 5+ years of professional experience as IC layout designer OR 8+ years with IC layout design
- Strong analog layout skills
- Experience in advanced node IC layouts (22nm, 16nm, 7nm, 5nm or below)
- Experience in layout of circuits with frequencies up to 50GHz
- Experience with skill programming
- Experience with shell scripting, Perl, Python or similar
- Working knowledge of Linux
- Excellent communication skills
- Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
