This role represents a unique opportunity to work on the world's largest satellite constellation project, currently serving over 4 million users worldwide with high-speed internet.

The position involves leading the development of sophisticated yet user-friendly consumer hardware products for Starlink's diverse customer base, which includes teachers in remote Amazon regions, researchers in Antarctica, digital nomads, emergency responders, and commercial airlines. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of bridging the digital divide by creating products that bring internet connectivity to underserved communities globally.

Your responsibilities will span the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept through high-volume production. You'll lead creative, multi-disciplinary projects that encompass both product design and manufacturing process development. This includes designing robot end effectors, developing control systems, and implementing automation solutions to ensure efficient, high-quality production.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of mechanical/electromechanical experience, with proven expertise in CAD software and manufacturing processes. You'll need strong analytical skills, practical experience with complex mechanical systems, and the ability to balance technical sophistication with user-friendly design. Responsibilities For Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Consumer Hardware (Starlink)

  • Own Starlink consumer hardware from conceptual design through high volume production and public launch
  • Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization
  • Test and iterate on products to enable high field reliability and performance
  • Design and develop production lines including robot end effector design and automation programming
  • Refine the production system to create high-rate, high-yield, and reliable processes
  • Establish efficient product lifecycle balancing cost, complexity, and quality

Requirements For Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Consumer Hardware (Starlink)

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience with CAD and FEA software packages
  • 5+ years of experience with mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (NX preferred)
  • Understanding of GD&T and mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills
  • Must be U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (ITAR requirements)
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary
