Description For Sr. Simulation Engineer (Nondestructive Evaluation)

SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Simulation Engineer (Nondestructive Evaluation) to join their team developing next-generation simulation and in-process monitoring tools for the Starship and Starlink programs, while scaling up Falcon and Dragon programs. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across all SpaceX programs and make a significant impact.

The ideal candidate will drive improvement and adoption of custom multiphysics simulation software solutions, leveraging expertise in materials, processes, and manufacturing. They will link simulation results to as-built parts, NDE methods, and machine learning models. The role involves designing improved usability for simulation tools, identifying process improvements, and working closely with production engineers and technicians.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and improving custom multiphysics simulation software
  • Linking simulation results to real-world data and machine learning models
  • Enhancing usability of simulation tools
  • Identifying manufacturing process improvements
  • Collaborating with simulation and machine learning experts
  • Providing solutions to production engineers and technicians
  • Participating in design reviews and code reviews

The position requires a strong background in software development, simulation, and manufacturing processes. Experience with OpenFOAM, additive manufacturing, and programming in Python or C++ is preferred. The ideal candidate will have expertise in casting, metallurgy, and a good understanding of statistics and machine learning.

Responsibilities For Sr. Simulation Engineer (Nondestructive Evaluation)

  • Drive improvement and adoption of custom multiphysics simulation software solutions
  • Leverage expertise in materials, processes, and manufacturing to deliver best-in-class simulation solutions
  • Link simulation results to as-built parts, NDE methods, and machine learning models
  • Design and deliver improved usability for simulation tools
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in manufacturing processes
  • Work closely with simulation and machine learning experts to link model outputs to process inputs
  • Deep dive into users' problems to find and create efficient solutions
  • Work closely with production engineers and technicians to provide the best first principles solution to their needs
  • Participate in or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback

Requirements For Sr. Simulation Engineer (Nondestructive Evaluation)

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline and 5+ years of software development experience; OR 7+ years of professional experience with simulation software for casting/other manufacturing processes in lieu of a degree
  • Experience in full stack development, software engineering, data engineering, or data science
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
  • Ability to travel to other SpaceX sites as needed
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee due to ITAR requirements
