Description For SR. SOFTWARE ENGINEER, STARSHIP MANUFACTURING & SITE DEVELOPMENT (APPLICATION SOFTWARE)

SpaceX, founded with the vision of exploring the stars, is seeking ambitious software engineers for their Starship Manufacturing & Site Development team. This role involves building production capabilities for Starship and Superheavy vehicles, as well as managing Starbase site operations. The challenge is immense, as SpaceX aims to produce thousands of vehicles to make spaceflight as common as aviation.

As a Sr. Software Engineer, you'll have the autonomy to identify and solve problems across production and residential domains at Starbase. You'll work directly with vehicle engineering and production leadership to design innovative solutions, potentially benefiting other SpaceX programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning all aspects of software engineering and product development
  • Developing highly operable software solutions
  • Engaging with production and engineering teams to prioritize problems
  • Contributing to core software infrastructure and developer tooling

  • Develop highly operable software solutions that enable the team to spend most of our time creating new value for the program
  • High engagement with the production and engineering organization to find and prioritize problems

Requirements For SR. SOFTWARE ENGINEER, STARSHIP MANUFACTURING & SITE DEVELOPMENT (APPLICATION SOFTWARE)

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline AND 5+ years of experience in software development; OR 7+ years of professional experience in software development in lieu of degree
  • Experience in full stack development
  • Track record of designing software systems from nothing, as well as maintaining mature systems
  • 4+ years of experience building web applications
  • Programming experience with a variety of languages (compiled/interpreted, strong/weak typing)
  • Strong ability to root cause software problems and tune system performance down to the hardware constraints
  • Experience with modern software development tooling like version control, CICD, automated testing, observability, and containerization
  • Experience developing on both UNIX-like and Windows operating systems
  • U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, Refugee, or Asylee status due to ITAR requirements
