As a Hardware Test Engineer at SPAN, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring product reliability and safety. The position combines hands-on hardware testing with strategic planning and implementation of testing methodologies.

Working in SPAN's SOMA-based San Francisco office, you'll collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams to define and execute testing strategies. Your responsibilities span from building test setups and conducting various performance tests to root-cause analysis of hardware failures and coordination with external testing labs.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of hardware testing experience, with deep knowledge of environmental/reliability testing procedures and strong practical skills in electronic rework and instrumentation. Proficiency in Python programming and Linux systems is essential, as is the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.

Responsibilities For Hardware Test Engineer

  • Build test setups and take data in our lab
  • Work with Engineers to develop test plans
  • Operate tests using Linux command line and Python coding
  • Conduct testing for material properties, design structure, thermal performance
  • Define test plans for environmental/reliability and hardware design verification
  • Root-cause analyze hardware failures
  • Prepare and present test findings
  • Develop and execute reliability tests and certification tests
  • Reworking PCBAs and building test fixtures

Requirements For Hardware Test Engineer

Python
Linux
  • 5+ years of experience in a hardware test role
  • Deep understanding of environmental/reliability test procedures
  • Competent in soldering & electronic rework for SMD parts
  • Hands-on experience building test setups
  • Understanding of electromagnetism, electronics, and material physics
  • Comfortable with scripting languages, particularly Python
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Meticulous and creative approach to problem-solving
