SPAN, a mission-driven company focused on home electrification and decarbonization, is seeking a Staff Platform Infrastructure Engineer to lead their next-generation infrastructure and developer platforms. This role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, focusing on Kubernetes, Pulumi, Istio, and AWS technologies in a microservices environment.

The position requires an experienced professional with 8+ years of experience who can architect and implement robust infrastructure solutions while mentoring teams and driving technical decisions. The role encompasses everything from hands-on platform development to strategic planning and team leadership.

Working from SPAN's San Francisco headquarters, you'll be responsible for designing and maintaining critical infrastructure components, implementing CI/CD pipelines, managing cloud resources, and ensuring system reliability. Responsibilities For Staff Platform Infrastructure Engineer

  • Define and drive platform engineering vision and roadmap
  • Architect and implement Kubernetes-based infrastructure solutions
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions using Pulumi
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for microservices
  • Lead deployment and maintenance of Istio for service mesh
  • Manage AWS services for scalable solutions
  • Own developer experience and maintain internal tools
  • Act as technical mentor and share best practices
  • Implement observability solutions and define SLOs/SLAs

Requirements For Staff Platform Infrastructure Engineer

Kubernetes
Python
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering
  • Deep experience with Kubernetes in production environments
  • Proficiency with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions
  • Expertise in Pulumi or similar IaC tools
  • Experience with Istio or similar service mesh solutions
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services
  • Familiarity with IoT technologies and protocols
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
