Senior Backend Engineer- Markets & Subscriptions

The Subscriptions R&D team at Spotify oversees the entire user journey and ensures innovative engagement at every step. Within this team, the Lingo squad builds localized experiences to accelerate Premium subscriber growth in emerging markets. They've experimented with celebrating cultural moments like Diwali and Ramadan, and are now focusing on building premium fandom experiences around K-Pop and I-Pop, scaling them globally.

As a Senior Backend Engineer in this team, you will:

• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and data scientists to build end-to-end client-facing experiences used by millions of users.
• Architect, develop, and operate scalable backend systems, following good design and development practices.
• Take operational responsibility for team-owned services, including joining an on-call rotation.
• Be a key leader who can coach others and drive continuous improvement in work processes.

The ideal candidate has:

• 5+ years of experience building and operating backend services with Java frameworks.
• Enjoyment in collaborative work on a full-stack team using agile processes.
• Methodical problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate issues in complex systems with a positive attitude.
• A commitment to shipping high-quality code.
• A passion for learning and teaching others, with T-shaped engineering skills.
• The ability to reason about trade-offs of different databases, with hands-on experience in SQL and NoSQL.
• Passion for the work and alignment with Spotify's mission.
