Description For Technical Support Engineer (Linux Sys Admin)

We are looking for a Technical Support Engineer (Linux) to join our Support Organisation at Squiz. The ideal candidate should come from a technical support or deployments background and be a proactive and enthusiastic problem solver capable of resolving complex technical issues while maintaining good customer focus.

Key skills required:

  • 3-5 years of troubleshooting skills on Linux based systems
  • Autonomy in fault finding
  • Client facing communication skills
  • Experience working in major or critical incidents

Strong background in technologies such as:

  • Linux (Preferably Fedora/EL flavours of Linux)
  • Web stack (NGINX, PHP, Redis, Postgresql)
  • Revision/Configuration Control (SVN, Puppet4, Git/Gitlab)
  • Server Monitoring (Nagios, Grafana, Thousand Eyes)
  • Networking (DNS, Firewalls, Routing)

Nice to have skills:

  • Cloud based deployments (AWS, Docker, Terraform, Cloudflare)

Responsibilities:

  • Solving technical problems for customers with existing systems
  • Building and installing new infrastructure, servers, and machines
  • Maintaining current infrastructure (VMs, servers, hosted systems, SaaS)
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis of key projects
  • Working with the product team to migrate systems to SaaS
  • Maintaining servers in AWS
  • Suggesting and implementing improvements to the support environment

The role is based in Edinburgh with the ability to access the office 1-2 times per week. Successful candidates are expected to work as part of an on-call rota. A police check and/or security clearance may be required.
