Description For Engineer Lead, ST

At Starbucks, our mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time. Starbucks Technologists work to achieve this mission through the use of cutting-edge technology delivered to our partners, customers, stores, roasters, and global communities.

Join our Menu Engineering team as a Lead Software Engineer, where you'll play a central role in developing and operating one of the world's largest digital menu board implementations. This position is not just about leading our groundbreaking solution's technical design and delivery; it's about guiding and inspiring a team of skilled engineers and acting as a pivotal technical liaison. Your expertise and vision will be instrumental in shaping a global-scale project, connecting with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, and setting new standards in the digital menu space.

Our engineering team is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of our technical solutions; from initial design to running the solution in production. An average day will be a mix of implementing features and functionality, contributing to solution design, providing operational support for existing solutions, and defining or enhancing our engineering standards and practices.

As an engineering lead, you will...

  • Innovate and Implement: Design and develop software solutions that are maintainable, scalable, and reliable, ensuring the highest standards of quality.
  • Lead Technical Initiatives: Own the technical implementation and delivery of our menu data platform solution, driving its success and evolution.
  • Be the Expert: Serve as the subject matter expert for menu data, guiding both internal and external technology teams with your deep knowledge and insights.
  • Champion Best Practices: Promote and enforce adherence to software engineering best practices within the team, fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Communicate Complex Ideas: Translate highly complex ideas and concepts to technical peers and non-technical business partners, ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • Foster Collaboration: Establish and maintain cross-functional, collaborative relationships with business and technology partners to drive collective success.
  • Ensure Stability and Security: Guarantee that application and infrastructure solutions are stable, secure, and compliant with Starbucks' standards and practices.
  • Provide Operational Support: Deliver high-availability operational support and automate solutions across the environment to ensure seamless operations.
  • Implement Telemetry and Monitoring: Integrate deep telemetry capabilities to provide ongoing success and performance metrics and ensure service monitoring across all platforms for continuous availability and operational continuity.

If you live in the greater Seattle area, we offer a flexible workplace that allows for hybrid work. Partners can work remotely up to two days per week.
