The Takealot Group, a leading South African online retailer, is seeking a highly talented BI Engineer to join their team. As a BI Engineer, you'll work closely with internal stakeholders to determine business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs. You'll design and document dashboards, alerts, and reports, while also serving as a data modeller and steward.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading BI analytical projects implementing new BI software tools (Google Big Query, Looker)
- Working on complex, cross-functional enterprise BI solutions
- Evaluating stakeholder needs and providing appropriate solutions
- Participating in planning, design, development, and testing of BI solutions
- Reviewing data pipelines and test plans
- Researching and developing best practices for reports and dashboards
- Providing guidance and training to team members
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Management (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of Business Analysis or related technical experience
- 3+ years experience with BI reporting tools, SQL, and Data Warehousing
- Proficiency in working with large data sets and business models
- Python experience (advantageous)
- E-commerce experience (advantageous)

Responsibilities For BI Engineer
- Lead BI analytical projects implementing new BI software tools (Google Big Query, Looker)

- Evaluate internal and external stakeholder needs to provide appropriate solutions
- Participate in planning, design, development, and testing of BI solutions
- Provide input to the development of information quality metrics
- Review data pipelines and test plans
- Research and provide input on new tools, frameworks, and processes
- Develop best practices for reports and dashboards deployments
- Provide guidance, training, and problem-solving assistance to team members
- Provide subject matter expertise for key BI core functions
Requirements For BI Engineer
- Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Management (or 8+ years equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5 years of Business Analysis or related technical experience
- Minimum 3 years experience using BI reporting tools (e.g. Looker, QlikView, Tableau, Microsoft BI)
- Minimum 3 years SQL experience
- Minimum 3 years Data Warehousing experience
- High proficiency in working with large data sets and business models
- Knowledge of one or more business functional areas
- Ability to understand customer's business needs and translate them into dev requirements
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to collaborate with other team members
