Description For CAE Thermal Engineer, Battery Engineering

Tesla is seeking an experienced CAE CFD Engineer to join their Battery Engineering team in a role that combines thermal engineering expertise with cutting-edge electric vehicle development. The role demands a strong background in fluid mechanics and thermal engineering, with the successful candidate applying state-of-the-art modeling tools to push the boundaries of battery technology and revolutionary vehicle designs. You'll be working across all Tesla vehicle programs, collaborating with multiple teams to solve complex engineering challenges.

Key responsibilities include creating sophisticated CAE/CFD and thermal models, providing technical guidance to design and manufacturing teams, and performing advanced multi-physics simulations. You'll be involved in everything from detailed engineering analysis to test validation and performance optimization.

The ideal candidate brings at least 5 years of experience in automotive or transportation industry, with deep expertise in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Thermal Modeling, and related disciplines. Experience with major CFD tools and battery design is crucial, while knowledge of Python or similar tools for physics-based modeling is preferred.

Responsibilities For CAE Thermal Engineer, Battery Engineering

  • Create CAE/CFD and thermal models of the battery and vehicle
  • Provide guidance and support to design and manufacturing teams
  • Conduct engineering analysis to improve designs and processes
  • Perform advanced coupled multi-physics simulations
  • Perform post-test reviews and corroborate CAE and CFD predictions
  • Guide performance validation and test planning
  • Develop predictive models of materials and processes
  • Produce management summaries and report-outs
  • Work collaboratively with CAE, design, test engineering and manufacturing teams

Requirements For CAE Thermal Engineer, Battery Engineering

Python
  • Engineering degree in a relevant field
  • Proficient knowledge in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Thermal Modeling, Gas Dynamics
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in automotive or transportation industry
  • Extensive experience with CFD tools like ANSYS-FLUENT, STAR CCM+, COMSOL
  • Experience in HV battery design and thermal management preferred
  • Experience with thermal and electro-chemical modeling of Lithium-ion battery cells
  • Experience in combustion science and high speed reactive flows
  • MATLAB, Simulink, or Python experience
  • Excellent written and communication skills
