Description For Compliance Test Engineer, Grid Interoperability

Tesla's Energy team is revolutionizing the grid with their world-leading battery technology, developing and deploying grid-connected energy storage systems at residential, industrial, and utility levels. As a Compliance Test Engineer in Grid Interoperability, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring Tesla's energy storage systems meet global standards and requirements.

The role combines technical expertise in electrical engineering with a focus on product safety and reliability. You'll work with cutting-edge technology while collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive the certification and compliance processes for Tesla's energy storage systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to impact the global deployment of sustainable energy solutions.

You'll be responsible for conducting grid code and product safety testing, creating configuration files for different markets, and representing Tesla in industry committees. The role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate complex standards and requirements. You'll also serve as an expert resource for other compliance test engineers and work closely with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs).

Responsibilities For Compliance Test Engineer, Grid Interoperability

  • Perform grid code and product safety type testing
  • Setup test configuration hardware and firmware
  • Create configuration files for country/utility grid code requirements
  • Write Compliance Product Design Requirements (CPDR)
  • Support product registrations and permitting applications
  • Research new market entry requirements
  • Represent Tesla on code committee in renewable energy industry
  • Serve as an expert resource for compliance test engineers
  • Work with NRTLs to achieve product compliance target

Requirements For Compliance Test Engineer, Grid Interoperability

  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience in renewable energy systems certification process
  • Experience in grid interactive and grid support standards
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong lab/test/data analysis/troubleshooting/reporting skills
  • Proven track record in renewable product certifications
  • Experience with test equipment (Yokogawa, Dewetron)
  • Fluent in English
