Description For Craftsmanship Engineer

Tesla is seeking a Craftsmanship Engineer to join their team in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role is crucial in ensuring Tesla's products meet the highest quality standards through sight, touch, sound, and scent. The Craftsmanship team works closely with Product Management, Design Studio, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to optimize product design and quality.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of automotive Craftsmanship or Perceived Quality experience and will be responsible for developing and maintaining quality standards across vehicle systems. This includes benchmarking competitor vehicles, creating control documents, and developing sensory targets that deliver a world-class user experience.

The role offers a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $174,000 annually, along with comprehensive benefits including 401(k) with employer match, parental support programs, and healthcare options. Responsibilities For Craftsmanship Engineer

  • Ownership of Craftsmanship attribute deliverables for defined vehicle systems
  • Benchmarking of competitor vehicles and consolidating data
  • Creation and development of gap and flush control documents
  • Creation and development of Craftsmanship sensory targets
  • Representation of Craftsmanship attribute in product design meetings
  • Development of verification testing methods
  • Driving closure of Craftsmanship issues
  • Supporting craftsmanship deliverables through development/engineering sign-off
  • Supporting quality functions to ensure targets are measurable

Requirements For Craftsmanship Engineer

  • Excellent numeracy, literacy, and logical reasoning skills
  • Inherent attention to detail
  • Understanding of dimensional variation in assemblies
  • Good understanding of statistical analysis
  • Ability to measure and quantify subjective data
  • Creative and constructive approach to design solutions
  • Ability to explain complex issues using technical language
  • Minimum 2 years of automotive Craftsmanship or Perceived Quality experience
  • Knowledge of production and prototype manufacturing methods
  • Flexibility to work across vehicle design areas
