Tesla's Drive Inverter team is at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation, designing and implementing the crucial power electronics that enable Tesla's vehicles to achieve industry-leading performance. As an Electrical Engineer on the Drive Inverter team, you'll be responsible for developing cutting-edge power electronics systems that deliver hundreds of kilowatts of power from the battery to the motor. This position combines expertise in high voltage power electronics, low voltage circuits, controls, functional safety, thermal management, and mechanical packaging.

The role demands a unique blend of technical skills, including digital and analog circuit design, PCB design using Altium, and experience with power semiconductors. You'll work with state-of-the-art lab equipment and be involved in all aspects of product development, from initial design to high-volume manufacturing.

Tesla offers a competitive compensation package ranging from $100,160 to $225,840 annually, plus additional cash and stock awards. Responsibilities For Electrical Engineer, Inverter, Semi

  • End-to-end ownership of new inverter PCBA designs including specifications, architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring up, validation, and overseeing reliability and functional testing
  • Collaboration with cross functional teams (mechanical, firmware, test, reliability etc.) to see products through high volume manufacturing
  • Design and execute high voltage and high current validation of new inverter designs
  • Debug complex component interactions at the vehicle level

Requirements For Electrical Engineer, Inverter, Semi

Python
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Digital and analog circuit design, including high voltage circuits or power supply design
  • Printed circuit board design (Altium) and initial bring-up: debugging, soldering, wiring, mechanical assembly
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware, microcontrollers and their peripherals, python scripting or similar
  • Familiarity with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies
  • Experience with power semiconductors (MOSFETs, IGBTs)
  • Knowledge of electric motors, thermal design, and/or mechanical design
  • Experience with automotive networking (CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
  • Basic control theory, including importance of sensor bandwidths, filtering
  • Automation of lab equipment (GPIB/SCPI/VISA)
