Description For Energy Products Applications Engineer

Tesla is seeking an Energy Products Applications Engineer to join their Powerwall Product & Applications Engineering team in their mission to create the world's best residential energy storage product. This role represents a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of Engineering Design and Testing teams, alongside global Powerwall Sales, Deployment, and Service teams.

The position involves working with electrical, mechanical, and software elements to create innovative solutions that enhance customer experience, boost product reliability, and drive product excellence. You'll be responsible for evaluating residential applications for solar, EV charging, and energy storage systems, while also serving as a technical contact for both internal and external customers.

As an ideal candidate, you'll bring 1-3 years of engineering experience, strong technical fundamentals, and excellent communication skills. The role requires understanding of AC and DC power systems, along with knowledge of engineering fundamentals across mechanical, electrical, and thermal domains. Experience with AutoCAD, electrical codes, and battery pack architecture is valued.

Responsibilities For Energy Products Applications Engineer

  • Serve as technical contact for internal/external customers
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to provide product design feedback
  • Champion customer/installation product functionality throughout lifecycle
  • Evaluate residential applications for solar, EV charging, and energy storage systems
  • Develop process documentation for product evaluation and deployments
  • Validate user experience, new features, and third-party integrations
  • Manage integration and product pilots
  • Research and define market requirements
  • Collect feedback from global install, quality, service, and sales teams

Requirements For Energy Products Applications Engineer

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years prior engineering experience
  • Understanding of AC and DC power systems
  • Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD preferred
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), IEC preferred
  • Hands-on experience with electrical wiring preferred
  • Experience with SQL preferred
  • Knowledge of battery pack architecture preferred
