Description For Engineering Technician, Cell Qualification, Cell Engineering

Tesla is seeking an Engineering Technician for their Cell Qualification and R&D group, responsible for testing and qualifying next-generation Li-ion battery cells and developing new cell test methods. The role involves laboratory test execution, life-cycle characterization, and mechanical testing. The ideal candidate should have outstanding attention to detail, interest in developing inspection skills, and aptitude for electrical and mechanical test methods.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating battery test equipment for routine cell-level testing
  • Managing and organizing battery cell test samples
  • Compiling and communicating test data to engineers
  • Participating in test fixture design and setup
  • Managing laboratory equipment and maintaining a clean work environment

The role requires experience with cell cycling hardware, knowledge of standard electronics tools, and a strong interest in lithium-ion battery technology. Responsibilities For Engineering Technician, Cell Qualification, Cell Engineering

  • Operate battery test equipment to perform routine laboratory cell level testing
  • Manage and organize battery cell test samples through their entire life cycle
  • Compile, organize, summarize and communicate test data to test engineers
  • Communicate issues observed in sample, process, test or documentation to supervisor
  • Participate in test fixture design, instrument and assemble cells into test setup
  • Manage laboratory equipment, including daily verification, preventive maintenance, yearly calibration
  • Identify and troubleshoot test equipment and setup as needed
  • Support laboratory organization and maintain a clean work environment

Requirements For Engineering Technician, Cell Qualification, Cell Engineering

  • Experience working with common cell cycling hardware (Arbin, Maccor, Neware, Bio-logic, PEC, Bitrode, AV, Gamry)
  • Knowledge of standard electronics tools including DC meters, power supplies, oscilloscopes
  • Experience in wiring and soldering
  • Experience with metrology and data acquisition systems
  • Strong interest or passion for lithium-ion battery technology
  • Knowledge of safety hazards of working with and electrical and mechanical testing of lithium-ion batteries
