Description For Engineering Technician, Homologation & Range Test Technician (Night Shift)

Tesla is seeking a dedicated Engineering Technician for their vehicle homologation and range testing team. This role is crucial for Tesla's worldwide vehicle rollout, requiring expertise in vehicle systems and diagnostics. Based in Merritt Island, Florida, this position demands flexibility with shift work and up to 50% travel to various domestic and international locations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive technology, with at least 2 years of experience as an Engineering technician, Service technician, or similar role. A 2-year technical/automotive degree is required, and Master technician certification is preferred. The role involves hands-on work with prototype vehicles, requiring both technical expertise and careful attention to detail.

Key responsibilities include preparing vehicles for homologation range tests, performing diagnostics and repairs, maintaining test equipment, and generating comprehensive test reports. The position demands excellent communication skills, as you'll work closely with engineers and other technicians to ensure high-quality technical support.

Responsibilities For Engineering Technician, Homologation & Range Test Technician (Night Shift)

  • Prepare prototype and production vehicles for Homologation range tests for multiple global markets
  • Perform diagnosis and repair of prototype vehicle's electrical/mechanical/software
  • Maintain vehicle preparation timelines and fleet vehicles
  • Design and build new instrumentation or test equipment as needed
  • Install instrumentation and test equipment on prototype vehicles
  • Generate test reports and document results
  • Communicate directly with engineers and other technicians
  • Maintain detailed records of all work performed

Requirements For Engineering Technician, Homologation & Range Test Technician (Night Shift)

  • 2 years or more experience as an Engineering technician, Service, Test technician, or Manufacturing technician
  • 2 year technical/automotive degree required
  • Master technician preferred
  • High voltage certifications and ASE preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of electric vehicle systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Must be comfortable driving prototype vehicles
