Tesla is seeking an Engineering Technician to join their Test Systems Engineering team in Sunnyvale, California. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced R&D environment, focusing on providing scalable internal test solutions across Tesla's vehicle and energy sectors.

As an Engineering Technician at Tesla, you'll be part of a diverse team of Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers, supported by a versatile Build, Commissioning, and Support (BCS) Team. Your primary responsibilities will include designing, building, operating, and maintaining test fixtures and setups for R&D projects. You'll also perform light fabrication and assembly tasks, maintain documentation, and contribute to improving test capabilities and efficiency.

This position requires a skilled, independent, and reliable individual with 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in a related field. You should have strong mechanical assembly knowledge, excellent communication skills, and experience with tools like Jira, SharePoint, and Confluence. Practical knowledge of CAN and LIN protocols is essential, as is the ability to troubleshoot equipment with multiple levels of subsystems.

Responsibilities For Engineering Technician, Test Systems Engineering

  • Design, build, operate, and maintain test fixtures, setups, and ad hoc equipment for R&D projects
  • Perform light fabrication and assembly tasks
  • Maintain or create documentation during fault finding, maintenance, or upgrade activities
  • Improve test capability and efficiency
  • Conduct post-test teardowns
  • Build high quality harnesses, cables, and enclosures
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment

Requirements For Engineering Technician, Test Systems Engineering

Linux
  • 3-5+ years demonstrated hands-on work experience in a related field/environment
  • Experience working in a fast-paced R&D environment
  • Strong mechanical assembly knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Experience utilizing Jira, SharePoint, and Confluence
  • Work experience troubleshooting equipment with multiple levels of subsystems
  • Practical knowledge of CAN and LIN protocols
  • Ability to lift 45lbs when needed
  • Willing to travel domestic and international when necessary
