Description For Engineering Technician, Vehicle Test

Tesla is seeking an Engineering Technician to join their Vehicle Test team in East Liberty, Ohio. This role is integral to supporting vehicle-level testing for Reliability and Durability tests performed both in-house and at external test labs. The position requires extensive automotive maintenance and testing experience, with a focus on electric and hybrid vehicles.

The ideal candidate will work directly with Engineering teams to execute vehicle-level tests at various proving grounds. They will be responsible for test setup, inspections, diagnosis, and part retrofits while maintaining clear communication channels with various engineering teams. The role demands strong technical expertise in vehicle systems, including chassis, suspension, powertrain, and both low and high voltage systems.

Responsibilities For Engineering Technician, Vehicle Test

  • Collaborate with Test Engineers & Technicians in vehicle test execution including test setup, inspections, diagnosis, part retrofits and driving
  • Communicate directly with Engineering teams for status updates and problem solving
  • Support various teams within the Engineering organization
  • Perform general shop maintenance & upkeep
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Manage time independently to complete parallel assignments

Requirements For Engineering Technician, Vehicle Test

  • 5+ Years in automotive service industry
  • Technical / automotive ASE (or equivalent) certification
  • Advanced diagnosing capabilities on electric/hybrid vehicles
  • In-depth understanding of full vehicle systems
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools and Tesla systems
  • Basic fabrication skills
  • Basic instrumentation knowledge
  • Vehicle & controller firmware deployment experience
  • Ability to travel up to 15% annually
  • Flexibility to work long hours and weekends when required
