Tesla is seeking talented interns for their Abuse Testing & Engineering team, focusing on cell engineering and battery systems. This challenging role involves working with cutting-edge battery technology across all Tesla products, from vehicles to energy storage systems. Responsibilities For Internship, Abuse Testing & Engineering, Cell Engineering (Summer 2025)

  • Conduct destructive testing of batteries from pack, module and cell level
  • Apply electrical, mechanical, and thermal stresses to battery systems
  • Provide rapid feedback to inform designs early in development
  • Perform stress testing of electrical components
  • Work on battery propagation resistance testing
  • Conduct materials characterization and failure mode analysis
  • Work with specialized equipment for battery testing
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, thermal, and firmware engineers

Requirements For Internship, Abuse Testing & Engineering, Cell Engineering (Summer 2025)

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer, combustion and electrical
  • Experience with materials characterization
  • Experience with CAD (Catia V5, V6 or Solidworks)
  • Experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, and/or other common programming languages
  • Experience with electrical systems (PCB's, resistors, voltage)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods for prototyping
  • Must be hands-on (assembly, fabrication/modification, instrumentation, wiring, electrical troubleshooting)
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion batteries preferred
