This position, based in multiple locations including the San Francisco Bay Area and Austin, provides hands-on experience in Tesla's innovative battery production and recycling processes.

Interns will work directly with experienced engineers on critical projects involving mass and energy balance modeling, equipment design, and process optimization. Responsibilities For Internship, Chemical Engineer, Cell Engineering (Winter/Spring 2025)

  • Work with engineers and engineering technicians on mass and energy balance model development
  • Design, build, and commission new equipment at mini pilot/pilot scale
  • Support crystallization team and plant commissioning
  • Interface with multiple departments to assist in refinery success
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of multiple lab and pilot facilities
  • Contribute to production process of lithium compounds
  • Participate in development, measurement, and production of new cathode active materials
  • Develop systems for operations, training, dashboard visualization of KPIs

Requirements For Internship, Chemical Engineer, Cell Engineering (Winter/Spring 2025)

Python
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
  • Knowledge of chemistry, thermodynamics, engineering fundamentals, Li-ion batteries, cathode materials, or powder processing
  • Proficiency in using engineering software and tools (e.g., MATLAB, AutoCAD, Plant 3D)
  • Experience in ASPEN, Power BI, Tableau, Python, R, TwinCat programming
  • Experience in a R&D, powder production equipment, or materials development work
