Tesla is seeking a Controls & Software Automation Engineer intern for their Cell Manufacturing team, starting Summer 2025. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation and controls systems in Tesla's manufacturing facilities. The intern will be involved in developing and maintaining critical software systems, working with industrial vision processing, and contributing to virtual commissioning projects. Interns will work directly with production-critical systems that operate 24/7, controlling hundreds of industrial cameras and managing complex manufacturing processes. Responsibilities For Internship, Controls & Software Automation Engineer, Cell Manufacturing (Summer 2025)
- Review vendor electrical controls designs against Tesla standards
- Develop code that is structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable
- Interface equipment with Tesla production databases
- Develop 3D/2D simulation models of automated manufacturing processes
- Maintain and develop features for production critical industrial vision processing software
- Work with cross-functional engineering teams on cell manufacturing development projects
- Validate PLC, HMI programs, robot programs and Tesla Manufacturing Execution System
Requirements For Internship, Controls & Software Automation Engineer, Cell Manufacturing (Summer 2025)
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, preferably Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical or a related field
- Basic understanding designing electrical control panels, controls system wiring and instrumentation
- Experience with software development: GitHub, Splunk & Jira and working with industrial machine vision cameras
- Experience with tools for virtual commissioning is preferred
- Familiarity coding Microcontrollers or PLCs in major programming languages
- Experience in web development languages and frameworks
- Experience with 3D CAD design software such as CATIA or SOLIDWORKS is preferred
- Robust understanding of software fundamentals
- Demonstrate a good understanding of testing concepts
