Description For Internship, Hardware Design Engineer, Silicon Development (Winter/Spring 2025)

Tesla is seeking Hardware Design Engineering interns for Silicon Development for Winter/Spring 2025. This internship offers opportunities across multiple teams including DOJO/Autopilot Physical Design, DOJO System Hardware Design, Autopilot Silicon and Systems Validation, and Autopilot Silicon and System Design. Interns will contribute to critical projects, gaining experience in SOC implementation, high-speed board design, silicon and system validation, and firmware development. The role requires strong electrical engineering fundamentals, hardware-software concepts understanding, and skills in PCB design, scripting, and system-level debugging. This full-time, on-site internship (40 hours/week) is expected to start around January 2025 and continue through April 2025 or into Summer 2025. Locations include Palo Alto, CA and Austin, TX. Responsibilities For Internship, Hardware Design Engineer, Silicon Development (Winter/Spring 2025)

  • Contribute to implementing SOCs and related IPs from synthesis through tapeout
  • Enhance result quality and streamline workflows by developing designs in TCL, Perl, and/or Python
  • Design SOC/Chipset components and peripherals (eMMC, flash, DDR, as well as interfaces such as I2C, UART, and SPI)
  • Provide power projection of end-to-end use cases for future projects
  • Create and execute test plans using basic programming
  • Build validation test infrastructures for Pre and Post Silicon phases
  • Participate in designing and productizing silicon chips, ASICs, and the overall system for Tesla Autopilot
  • Write firmware and software drivers to communicate with the system

Requirements For Internship, Hardware Design Engineer, Silicon Development (Winter/Spring 2025)

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of PCB manufacturing technologies and DFM
  • Understanding of system level aspects of low power and high-power design
  • Familiarity with Embedded board bring-up
  • Strong comfort in C, C++, Python, and/or Linux OS Scripting
  • Understanding fundamentals of real-time operating system (RTOS) principles
  • Experience in design, verification or validation disciplines, system/platform level debug and root cause isolation, methodology and tools
