Tesla is offering an exciting Manufacturing Engineering internship opportunity for Summer 2025, focusing on powertrain and energy products. This position represents a unique chance to work with one of the world's leading electric vehicle and sustainable energy companies.

The role is primarily based in their major manufacturing locations including Fremont, CA and Austin, TX, requiring full-time, on-site presence for a minimum of 12 weeks. As an intern, you'll be immersed in critical projects developing and engineering new processes and high-volume automation equipment for Tesla's cutting-edge manufacturing operations.

You'll work alongside Tesla's internal Product Design, Operations, Facilities, Production, and Quality Engineering teams, gaining invaluable experience in various aspects of manufacturing engineering. The position offers exposure to multiple critical areas including Global Battery Manufacturing, Power Electronics, Charging, Drive Unit, and Motor Manufacturing Engineering.

The ideal candidate should be pursuing a relevant engineering degree with a strong foundation in engineering fundamentals and hands-on experience. Proficiency in CAD software and experience with automated manufacturing equipment are crucial. The role demands strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with understanding of manufacturing principles like DFM and DFA.

Responsibilities For Internship, Manufacturing Engineering, Powertrain & Energy Products (Summer 2025)

  • Develop and engineer new processes and high-volume automation equipment
  • Work with Product Design, Operations, Facilities, Production and Quality Engineering teams
  • Coordinate cross-functional design activities with tool vendors
  • Develop new Drive Unit, Power Electronics, Charging, or Battery Manufacturing equipment
  • Own design and technical transfer of line's tools to Tesla Operations
  • Qualify tools for highest standards of safety, quality, and output

Requirements For Internship, Manufacturing Engineering, Powertrain & Energy Products (Summer 2025)

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field
  • Hands-on experience is required
  • Excellent grasp of engineering fundamentals
  • Proficient with CAD software (CATIA or SOLIDWORKS)
  • Experience with semi-automated/automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience in high-volume factory environment
  • Experience with design of tooling, jigs, and fixtures
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Understanding of statistical tools
  • Experience with 3D modeling
  • Experience with part and assembly 2D drawing
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills
  • Understanding of Geometric Design & Tolerance (GD&T)
