Description For Internship, Materials Engineer, Cell Engineering (Summer 2025)

Tesla is seeking Materials Engineering interns for their Cell Engineering team for Summer 2025. This comprehensive internship program offers hands-on experience in various aspects of battery technology development, from cathode engineering to cell modeling. The role requires a minimum 12-week, full-time commitment working on-site. Interns will be integrated into critical projects across different specialized teams, including Cathode Engineering, Cell Modeling, and Advanced Materials Research.

Responsibilities For Internship, Materials Engineer, Cell Engineering (Summer 2025)

  • Develop and scale up materials at lab scale
  • Assist with development and scale up at pilot scale
  • Work on precursor synthesis and raw material qualification
  • Participate in the development, measurement, and production of new cathode active materials
  • Develop and maintain numerical models to predict lithium-ion cell performance
  • Conduct battery performance testing and fundamental electrochemical analysis
  • Support development efforts focused on engineering and operating pilot plants
  • Aid in developing fundamental understandings of lithium battery electrodes

Requirements For Internship, Materials Engineer, Cell Engineering (Summer 2025)

Python
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field
  • Mechanically capable and willing to engage with equipment to conduct experimental operations
  • Prior experiences in Cathode and Lithium-Ion batteries testing
  • Strong understanding of materials engineering fundamentals
  • Strong understanding in electrochemistry and materials development
  • Experience with synthetic techniques used in developing materials for lithium ion cells
  • Working knowledge of Matlab or Python
  • Experience with lithium-ion battery research/design/manufacturing/testing
  • Proficiency in materials characterization tools and analysis
