Description For Internship, Test Automation and Validation Engineer, Vehicle Firmware (Winter/Spring 2025)

Tesla is seeking highly motivated interns to join the Vehicle Software organization's Systems Validation Team, focusing on high voltage systems, thermal systems, drive systems, and chassis systems. The team is responsible for validating all software-driven, system-level vehicle requirements prior to new hardware/software releases or product introductions.

Interns will support the development of validation strategies and deliver automated solutions for efficient testing and analysis. This role offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge software and hardware development tools and practices, contributing to building the most robust, performant, and reliable vehicles in the world.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with system architects, hardware designers, and software developers
  • Developing and executing comprehensive test specifications and plans
  • Inventing methods and building technology for efficient test execution and evaluation
  • Designing and integrating test automation frameworks and tools
  • Delivering test setups for new subsystem integration
  • Reporting and tracking software/hardware release issues
  • Investigating field issues through data analysis and reproduction
  • Continuously improving safety, performance, and customer satisfaction

The ideal candidate should be pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with an expected graduation date between April 2025-December 2026. They should have hands-on technical experience, proficiency in programming languages like Python and C/C++, and the ability to use various electrical test instruments.

  • Work with system architects, hardware designers and software developers
  • Develop and execute comprehensive system and sub-system level test specifications and test plans
  • Invent methods and build technology to execute tests and evaluate results
  • Specify, design, develop and integrate test automation frameworks and tools
  • Deliver test setups to integrate new subsystems with simulated and/or actual vehicle components
  • Report and track issues with software and/or hardware releases
  • Investigate field issues through data analysis and issue reproduction
  • Continuously look for ways to improve safety, performance, and customer satisfaction

Requirements For Internship, Test Automation and Validation Engineer, Vehicle Firmware (Winter/Spring 2025)

Python
  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Expected graduation date between April 2025-December 2026
  • Hands-on technical experience debugging complex systems
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages and/or C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Ability to use oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other electrical test instruments
  • Proficiency with Altium or similar schematic software
  • Understanding of physics fundamentals and first principles concepts
