Internship, Thermal & HVAC Embedded Software Engineer, Vehicle Firmware (Winter/Spring 2025)

As an Embedded Software Engineer Intern on the Thermal & HVAC software team at Tesla, you will play a crucial role in accelerating the delivery and refinement of Tesla-designed thermal systems for new and existing vehicle products. Your responsibilities will include architecting, designing, and implementing firmware for various motors, actuators, and sensors in the thermal system. You'll also contribute to developing user-facing features to enhance the accuracy and intuitiveness of the cabin HVAC system.

The thermal management system is one of the biggest energy consumers in an electric vehicle, making your contributions vital in improving vehicle efficiency and changing perceptions of electric vehicles. You'll deliver high-quality embedded code for Tesla controllers and production lines, joining a team that pushes the technology envelope in an open, collaborative, and supportive environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing, enhancing, and debugging behaviors for coolant, refrigerant, and cabin HVAC systems
• Driving firmware development in C for real-time embedded environments
• Hands-on hardware bring-up and component validation
• Cross-disciplinary collaboration with electrical, mechanical, and controls engineering teams
• Developing requirements for new thermal system features, diagnostics, and algorithms
• Communicating complex technical concepts to management
• Implementing continuous improvements and best practices

This internship is expected to start around January 2025 and continue through May 2025 or into Summer 2025 if available. The position requires a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site commitment. International students should consult their school regarding CPT authorization for full-time work.
