Tesla's Cell Quality team, within the Cell Engineering organization, is seeking a Lab Operations Engineer to lead the development and management of a new Cell Engineering lab. This role combines technical expertise with operational leadership, focusing on failure analysis investigations and supporting mass production cell development. Responsibilities For Lab Operations Engineer, Cell Quality

  • Work with cross-functional teams to assist in the design, build, commissioning, and launch of a Cell Engineering lab
  • Establish and maintain relationships with cross-functional teams and vendors
  • Develop, implement, and maintain lab procedures for safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance
  • Monitor and promote strict adherence to lab safety and operations protocols
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation
  • Support test iteration and development of novel fixtures and automation
  • Manage execution of non-standard lab operations
  • Train and assist personnel in the operation of test equipment
  • Manage lab resource scheduling, maintenance, and downtime
  • Report on lab operations, safety, and efficiency metrics

Requirements For Lab Operations Engineer, Cell Quality

Python
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Scientific or Engineering field (i.e., Chemistry or Metallurgy), or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with both technical and non-technical staff in a lab operations environment
  • Meticulous attention to detail with exceptional documentation, organization, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with EH&S, OSHA, UN, and DOT regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Advanced proficiency in lab characterization and analysis techniques
  • Experience with SEM/EDX, XRF, CT, and equipment for cell cycling, machining, or electrical diagnostics
  • Experience working with relevant software (CAD, Python, SQL, Tableau, Jira, Confluence, URScript, MATLAB)
  • Willing to work long hours and weekends as required
